Esther L Wasson, 84, a long-time Janesville resident passed away Friday morning, August 29, 2014 at Skaalen Home in Stoughton. Esther was born in Racine, WI on September 2, 1929, the daughter of Robert and Caroline (Steinhelber) Thorson. She grew up in the Orfordville area and graduated from Orfordville High School in 1947. She married Marvin Wasson on February 28, 1948. Esther was employed for 25 years as a tax preparer by H & R Block in Janesville. She had been a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, had served as a Girl Scout Leader at Wilson School in Janesville from 1962 to 1972, and was a member of TOPS for over 40 years. Esther loved to play cards, especially canasta, euchre and sheepshead at the Senior Center. She was a baseball fanatic and an avid Packers fan.
Surviving are her daughter, Kathleen (Thomas) Tearman of Edgerton, 2 grandchildren, Audra Hoops and Herman (Lindsay) Tearman, 3 great-grandchildren, Blake, Tyhan and Cullen as well as her sister, Alice Weiland of Footville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Wasson on September 2, 1986. Her parents also preceded her in death.
Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at Henke-Clarson Funeral Home, 1010 N. Wright Rd., Janesville. Private burial will be at a later date at Grove Cemetery, Roherty Road, rural Footville. Visitation is from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Henke-Clarson Funeral Home.
